Welcome

MCCSC Trail Report for Wednesday February 28th and LOPPET REPORT

The Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club has a reputation for putting on a well organized loppet each year and thanks to James Tremblay and his team of hard working club volunteers the same is true for the 2024 Miramichi Ray Thibodeau Loppet held this past Sunday. There were only 25 participants and the course was greatly modified. Bothof these situations were the result of the shortage of “winter” this season.

Although a loppet is non-competitive about half of the field were very experienced skiers and had little difficulty for the most part completing 20 kilometers on a fast track. The other half of the field, although skiing hard, can be considered more family oriented. The skiers ranged in age from 4 years old to well in their 60’s.

Elite skiers joined us from Nova Scotia, PEI and Quebec.

Awards in loppets are based on participation rather than finishing places.

The Youngest Skier:

Aube Chiasson-Arseneau from Pleasant Ridge. The four year old skied for a little more than 2 hours with her mother and skied 5 kilometers.

The Oldest Skier:

Paul Wright from Prince Edward Island.

The Family Award: (the family that skis the longest total of kilometers)

The Chiasson- Arseneau family of Pleasant Ridge.

The Club Award: (The visiting club that accumulates the most kilometers)

Scotia XC.

The Boston Family Trophy: (Presented to the MCCSC family that skis the most kilometers)

The Gadd Martin Family of Nelson

Here are the results in terms of distances and times:

By-the-way – With this heavy rainfall the club is closed and will likely be so until winter returns next month (or next year ☹).
